
About “Mohammad Javad Sa’labian”
Biography
Dr. Mohammad Javad Sa’labian was born in Shiraz in 1945. As a child, he moved to Abadan with his family where he spent his adolescence studying at a secondary school there. He gained admission to Shiraz University and began his academic studies at the faculty of Medicine. Within a year of his graduation from Shiraz University (1964), he left Iran for England to take some courses of specialty, which lasted until 1978. In the meantime, he worked at Royal Marsden Hospital (RM) in England and gave several speeches as a member of its Thyroid Group. To further his knowledge in the field of oncology, Dr. Sa’labian went off to the US where he studied Medical Oncology in Olive View Hospital and Pediatric Medical Oncology in Children Hospital, Los Angeles. When he returned to Iran 1980, he began to work in Shiraz University Hospital as the head of Radiography ward and a member of the specialty board at the Ministry of Health and Medicine. Holding a specialty board in Radiography and Oncology, Dr. Sa labian also taught at university during this time. He has participated in or made contributions to a number of projects abroad including: teamwork on Hematology and Oncology at the Medical Observations Unit in Olive View Hospital and UCLA (1990), comparative study of courses on Oncology at UCLA Medical Centre (1989), courses of Radiography and Oncology at the Medical Observations Unit of Olive View Hospital and UCLA (1991) – where he also taught, and a course on the second stage of Radiography. Dr. Sa’labian has served, in numerous positions: as professor of Radiography and Oncology (since 2006), head of the Tumor Registry Section in Fars province where tumor registry was done for the first time in Iran 1980-1999), an active member of the Iranian Society of Radiation Oncology and its Administration of Board Examinations (1979-2005), a member of Southern Association of Cancer Research in Iran and the Royal College of Radiologists in England.
Dr. Sa’labian has also been closely involved with research and educational activities in Shiraz University’s School of Medicine since 2006 as a faculty board member, a professor of Oncology and Radiography and the head of Iranian Society of Radiation Oncology, etc.
